First Lady Michelle Obama Goes Vintage...
For the annual Christmas in Washington concert, First Lady Michelle Obama wore a stunning vintage Norman Norell gown from New York Vintage. Absolutely fabulous.

Bell, Book, and Candle
I'm a bona fide film junkie. Ask me what my favorite film is and I'll ask "which genre?" then give you a top ten list. Maybe twenty. But there is one movie I have watched over-and-over-again and never tire of. It's not a cinematic wonder or Oscar award winner (though it was nominated for two). It's just a charming romantic comedy that boasts an amazing wardrobe (!) set in a backdrop of wicked-cool mid-century modern aesthetic. And every year near the holidays, when the days are shorter and the first snow falls... I find my copy of Bell, Book, and Candle and curl up in a warm blanket of nostalgia.
First of all, holy smoke, the cast is simply amazing. Kim Novak as Gillian Holroyd, a modern (mid-century modern, that is) witch who lives in New York City with her fabulous siblings played by the ever clever Jack Lemmon and the uber-adorable Elsa Lanchester. And the love interest? Jimmy Stewart. I could just stop there. *swoon* But, I'd be remiss to leave out the fab appearances by Ernie Kovacs and Hermione Gingold.
The impeccable tailored suits paired with sharp fedora hats and Kim Novak's sexy-but-not-revealing wardrobe makes for an unbelievable mid-century costume study. I don't know a girl that's seen the film that doesn't covet that velvet dress with the plunging back and monochromatic jeweled cuffs.
The film also provides a rare peek at the mid-century Exotica trend. Novak's character owns a Primitive shop filled with goodness. Carved wood fetishes, tribal masks, drums. Simply fantastic.
So, if you're looking for a light-hearted, good old-fashioned romantic comedy that isn't too heavy on the sweet... check it out. If you're interested in Exotica... check out Etsy. Here's a teaser to get you started...

Olde Tyme Goodness.
I love the Olde Tyme Shop on Etsy. I just picked up a Farberware Stainless Electric Skillet and set of Ekco cutlery on the cheap. Great selection of kitchenware built to last for generations.
